MetaSprint Series Triathlon 2025 Race Report
The MetaSprint Series Triathlon 2025 took place on Sunday, 16 March, at East Coast Park, delivering an exciting day of multisport action. With a rolling start format and an easy-to-navigate swim course, the event attracted seasoned triathletes and first-timers alike, creating an inclusive and competitive atmosphere.
Race Distances for Every Athlete
The event featured multiple race distances:
- Sprint & Sprint Relay (750m swim / 18km bike / 5km run)
- Discovery & Youth (250m swim / 12km bike / 2.5km run)
- Triathlon XL60 (1.5km swim / 43.5km bike / 15km run) – Introduced this year in celebration of Singapore’s 60th birthday.
- Kids (150m swim / 6km bike / 1.5km run)
A Growing Legacy
Now in its 18th year, the MetaSprint Series continues to thrive, welcoming 3,000 participants across the series and drawing 1,400 racers for today’s thrilling Triathlon. The XL60 Triathlon made an exciting debut, with around 300 athletes testing themselves over the extended distance.
Racing for a Cause
Adding to the day’s inspiration, Dr. Tan Lai Yong and a group of first-time triathletes took on the challenge to raise funds for St Luke’s Hospital, supporting lower-income patients and the hospital’s chaplaincy fund. Their intergenerational effort showcased the power of sport to bring people together for a meaningful cause.
The Battle for Champion of Champions
Elite triathletes and age-groupers put on a strong display of endurance. The coveted Champion of Champions title was claimed by Finn Bannister, who showcased remarkable talent and determination. With the men securing victories in the Aquathlon, Duathlon, and now the Triathlon, 2025 was officially a year for the boys.
Bannister delivered a commanding victory in the Men’s Sprint race, edging out young gun Santiago Juarez Gil and frequent podium placer Besnier Benoit in a thrilling showdown.

In the Women’s Sprint race, Emily Sambrook Smith stormed to a convincing four-minute victory over eventual series champion Vicky Hill and third-placed Iona Bevan, capping off a dominant performance.
Debut of the Triathlon XL60
The Triathlon XL60 saw an intense battle in the men’s race between Vladimir Dzurilla, Zeng Woon Ng, and Guillaume Lannes, with the lead changing multiple times throughout the grueling course. In a dramatic finish, Dzurilla stormed across the line, thumping his chest in victory, marking a powerful conclusion to an epic contest.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s XL60 race, Nadja Wachter delivered a leading performance from start to finish, dominating the competition with impressive consistency across all three disciplines.
Thrilling Youth and Kids Race
The Boys 14-15 Youth Triathlon delivered one of the day’s most thrilling finishes, as Malaysian Jun You Wong edged out Ho Ming Ethan Kwan of Hong Kong by just half a second, securing a nail-biting victory.
The Girls 14-15 Youth Triathlon was another exciting race, with Jemma Hadden taking the win by just six seconds over Nur Isabella Schiering, in a tightly contested battle to the line.
In the Kids 10-11 Triathlon, Diana Fekete put on an outstanding performance, finishing second overall out of both genders, just 50 seconds behind the Boys 10-11 winner, Denton Koh. Her remarkable effort highlighted the strength of young female athletes in the field.
More Than Just a Race
Beyond the fierce competition, today was a celebration of community, inclusivity, and first-time achievements. From Discovery racers taking their first steps into multisport to the youngest Kids’ athletes giving it their all, the MetaSprint Series once again proved itself as “a fun way to be a triathlete”.
The cheerful, family-friendly environment at East Coast Park, combined with well-organized transitions and clear race signage, made for a seamless experience. Participants praised the rolling swim starts for reducing congestion in the water and appreciated the enthusiastic volunteer support throughout the race.
Looking Ahead
The MetaSprint Series Triathlon 2025 successfully delivered a challenging yet rewarding race experience, reinforcing its place as one of Singapore’s premier multisport events. With strong performances across all categories and an exciting debut for the Triathlon XL60, this year’s event set a high bar for future editions.
