30 Jan Embracing the Triathlon Spirit: Marliny Abdul Samad’s Inspiring Journey
In the bustling world of architecture, where precision and technical expertise are paramount, Marliny Abdul Samad, a dedicated Technical Officer, found an unexpected yet invigorating avenue to challenge herself – the world of triathlons. Her journey, which began later in life, is a testament to the transformative power of perseverance and self-discovery.
A Multifaceted Athletic Background
Marliny’s journey into the realm of triathlons wasn’t a typical one. Her sporting endeavours started during her secondary school days, where she showcased her skills in hockey and middle-distance running. As a working adult, she engaged in various sports like bowling and table tennis for her company. However, her entry into the world of triathlons was sparked by a desire to change her sedentary lifestyle.
“During the 2020 Circuit Breaker time, I did a lot of virtual races. In 2021, I got to know the trail run community and did an ultra run when celebrating my 47th year,” Marliny shares. Her journey with MetaSprint began with a desire to diversify her fitness routine and participated in her first aquathlon in 2021, followed by her first duathlon, and triathlon in 2022.
Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Change
The triathlon journey comes with its fair share of challenges. For Marliny, maintaining a consistent training routine proved to be a significant hurdle. “Training! Got to do it every day for these three disciplines,” she notes. Yet, with determination and the support of her family, colleagues, buddies, and the vibrant community around her, Marliny navigated these challenges with grace.
A Triathlete’s Turning Point
Reflecting on her triathlon journey, Marliny highlights the pivotal moment when she decided to explore beyond traditional running races. “I get easily bored. I did a ton of runs from 2017 to 2021. When the new year came in 2022, I said, ‘Okay, let’s explore more on triathlon,'” she recalls.
Strategies for Success: Family, Community, and Fun
Marliny emphasises the importance of a strong support system and the joy of being a part of a triathlon community, “Family, colleagues, buddy & community support is a must. Lucky me, surrounded by great vibes and cool people,” she says. Her approach is not just about physical fitness; it’s about embracing the fun and camaraderie that being a triathlete brings.
Continuing the Journey with Pride
Marlin’s advice to fellow triathletes and those inspired by her story is simple yet profound: “Being a triathlete is fun. Plan ahead, meet great athletes, and don’t be ashamed of being last or slow. Just do it with pride!” Her journey encapsulates the essence of triathlon – a celebration of personal triumphs, a dynamic community spirit, and an unwavering commitment to keep moving forward.
