02 Sep The good vibes show!
With less than a month to go before the start of the Good Vibes Run, we are still constantly reminded of the importance of mental health, and the prevalence of mental health issues. From Olympians like Simone Biles, to an ordinary school student in Singapore, no one is immune to them.
The benefits of physical activity are numerous, from increasing self-esteem, to reducing depression and anxiety. It comes as no surprise that physical activity is promoted as an important intervention in the management and prevention of mental health problems across all age groups.
Our charity partner, Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) has some ways to help, this time through the creative arts. With creative services such as SAMH Creative SAY! and SAMH Creative MINDSET Hub, SAMH explores the healing effects through art and nature through dance, song, stage, draw, and play.
Dance allows for participants to express how they feel, and communicate without words.
Song gives participants the voice to express what’s in their hearts and helps with their healing.
Stage grows the confidence and self-esteem of participants through performance.
Draw reminds participants that their picture of happiness can be theirs to draw.
Play bonds participants through art and nature, while allowing families the chance to enjoy the outdoors.
Armed with resources through both arts and sports, this journey towards better mental health need not be a lonely one. Always remember – you are never alone.
